Today is the day that the California Supreme Court will hand down it's ruling to either uphold or strike down Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment that bans gay marriage in the state of California. I'm nervous and I don't even live in California. This is a day for the history books, kids. If the Supreme Court decides to strike down Prop 8, I truly feel that it will begin a domino affect of states allowing gay marriage. Unfortunately, the "experts" are predicting that the Supreme Court will uphold the proposition, but recognize the marriages that occurred during the brief time that it was legal. That's the very least the Supreme Court can do. I am hoping with every part of me that they decide to strike it down, but we'll see. The decision could be announced as early as 10:00 a.m. PST, so keep your eyes and ears open! I personally am signed up for about 45 different text/email alerts so I'll keep you guys posted whenever I hear anything!
In the meantime, check out this LA Times article, it has good background information.
