Hi friends! Today I want to give you all a quick glimpse into two awesome Chicago bands of whom you should become huge, gigantic fans. First up - Dot Dot Dot. Some of you may recognize these guys from Fox's reality show, The Next Great American Band, in 2007. I don't remember how they ended up, but they did pretty well in the show. They are, by far, my favorite party band. From the instant they hit the first note until the very end of the show, I am jumping up and down, dancing my ass off, with a big 'ole silly grin on my face. Each and every member of this band is incredibly talented and you can just tell that they are having the time of their lives when on stage. Above is a picture of lead singer, Adam Blair (who not only rocks the mic but also plays guitar, bass, and drums at different points of the show) from last weekend at North Halsted Market Days. Courtesy, GF#2. Gracias mi amiga. The only problem that I have with Dot Dot Dot is that their live shows consist of mostly covers so I never get a good sampling of their own music and, thus, am never really motivated to buy their album.
Would you like to know who's new album I do love???? The Locals!!!!! Their new album, Big Picture, is so so so so so so so gooooood, people! You may remember, I referenced these guys in my post about the True Colors Tour. The lead singer, Yvonne Doll, was standing outside handing out samplers of said new album and I totally geeked out (soon I'll write a post about how I have zero problem meeting celebrities but I totally geek out over little known artists who I love). My musical love affair with Big Picture started that very night. Just like any relationship, we've had our ups and our downs. I was tempted to cheat with others such as The Medic Droid and The Gossip, but I always came home to my musical love and I'm happy to report that we're still going strong.
The Locals were also at North Halsted Market Days, but they played early in the day and I wasn't able to make it there in time. Dang. Anyway, Big Picture is really fucking good. Steven Gillis (of Filter) produced, recorded, and mixed the album and let me tell you kids, they do some good work together. Check it out, the whole thing is awesome but my favorite song is Seems So. Picture below is of lead singer Yvonne Doll, stolen by me from their Myspace page. Please don't sue me thankyouverymuch.
